Swiss women skiers take five top-ten slots

Switzerland's women skiers have had an impressive showing at a Super-G World Cup race in Cortina, Italy, seizing five of the top ten slots including a bronze.

Andrea Dettling led the charge for the Swiss women with a third-place finish that was 0.87 seconds behind the winner, Sweden’s Jessica Lindell-Vikarby. The bronze-medal finish was the third time Dettling, 22, has made it to the podium in her career.

The fourth place by Monika Dumermuth bested her personal record for the event. Same thing happened to Nadja Kamer, who tied with Lara Gut for sixth place at 0.95 seconds behind.

Fränzi Aufdenblatten came in tenth, about a second slower than the winner.

Fabienne Suter took 15th, a disappointing performance for the 24-year-old who has shown great strength in the Super G. She won the event twice last season and has two second-place finishes so far this year.

The strong performances leave head trainer Hugues Ansermoz with an enviable problem. Only four Swiss women skiers can go to the World Championships but seven of the team’s best Super G racers have had top-ten finishes.
