Von Grünigen to carry on skiing
Swiss skiing star Michael von Grünigen has decided to extend his career for at least one more year despite his injury problems this season.
The reigning giant slalom world champion had hinted that he might call it a day after missing much of the last year’s events with two serious injuries.
On Friday, though, the 32-year-old skier said he intended to stay on the professional circuit for at least one more year. Von Grünigen added that he intended to concentrate on his specialist giant slalom discipline.
“The world championships in St Moritz will be the highlight of what will be my last World Cup season, but for health reasons I won’t be competing in the slalom events,” Von Grünigen explained.
“I am convinced that as long as I’m enjoying my skiing, I still have what it takes to compete with the world’s best next season,” he added in a statement released by the Swiss skiing association.
