Revised law aims to protect consumers better
The government wants to protect consumers from dubious selling methods and other scams in a revised law on unfair competition.
On Wednesday it presented parliament with plans to counter abuse from the development of the internet and new trade practices.
Pyramid selling involving chain letters calling on people to recruit others in exchange for some kind of reward would be covered under the new legislation.
The government says it would protect people tempted to fall for deals offering high returns and also small and medium-sized companies that have to pay a high price for their name to appear in a publication which is never published.
It adds an amendment to current legislation that would also help combat cross-border scams by creating the necessary legal base for cooperation with surveillance services abroad.
