Coop buys into Betty Bossi
The retailer Coop has bought a 50 per cent stake in the legendary Swiss cooking publisher, Betty Bossi. The German publisher, Ringier, is keeping the other half of the company.
As part of the deal, Betty Bossi will remain an independent company. Its managing director, Walter Lüthi, will remain and it will keep a staff of 70.
In a statement, Coop said its outlets would reinforce rather than weaken the Betty Bossi brand name. It said it hope to benefit from the company’s expertise in the culinary field.
Betty Bossi’s monthly revue has 900,000 subscribers and is published in German and French. The Coop’s own weekly publication is to be entrusted to Betty Bossi.
Coop also expects to benefit from Ringier’s experience in the press, television and the Internet.
The amount paid for the stake has not been revealed.
