Credit Suisse helps ICRC in humanitarian role

Credit Suisse and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have formalised a long-term sponsorship agreement.

Monday’s signing builds upon a 2005 initial agreement that includes seven other Swiss organisations.

The partners are ABB, Roche, Swiss Re, Zurich Financial Services, the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, the Vontobel Group and the private bank Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch & Cie.

Each has committed to donate at least SFr3 million ($3.01 million) over six years.

“Credit Suisse’s support is an important contribution to the ICRC’s efforts throughout the world to help people affected by armed conflict,” the Geneva-based non-governmental organisation’s head, Jakob Kellenberger, said in Zurich.

Credit Suisse and the ICRC are set to share their expertise in areas including risk management, human resources, training and communication.

“Credit Suisse wants to make a direct contribution to the alleviation of suffering and hardship globally,” said company chairman Walter Kieholz.

The ICRC’s annual budget is over $1 billion.
