EMS Chemie considers withdrawing from Swiss bourse

Blocher says he is considering pulling his company from the Swiss bourse Keystone Archive

The Swiss chemicals group, EMS-Chemie, is reported to be considering withdrawing from the Swiss bourse back into private ownership.

EMS-Chemie, which is headed by Switzerland’s right-wing populist politician, Christoph Blocher, said the withdrawal would depend on whether the company’s board could find a suitable private business partner.

Blocher told the “Handelszeitung” newspaper on Wednesday that it would cost in the region of SFr1 billion to buy back the company’s shares.

The billionaire politician and businessman also sought to quash media speculation that he was considering going into partnership with the Zurich-based financier Martin Ebner.

Ebner is currently the largest shareholder in the troubled Swiss-Swedish power and automation technology group, ABB.

However, Blocher said he was investigating the possibility of joining forces with one or more industrial financiers who might be interested in investing in a new project.
