Bastl fails again

Bastl has struggled since March Keystone Archive

George Bastl has failed to progress beyond the first round of the Indianapolis tennis tournament. The player from Villars hasn't chalked up a victory since March.

Bastl managed to hold his own for most of the first against his Czech opponent, Michal Tabara. But his game collapsed in the second, resulting in a 6-4, 6-1 defeat.

Tabara is 70 places ahead of Bastl in the ATP rankings. The Czech won the Chennai Open at the beginning of the year.

This was Bastl’s sixth straight loss in the first round of an ATP tournament. The Swiss player hasn’t won a match since the opening round of the Miami Open in March, when he defeated Australian Richard Fromberg.

Michel Kratochvil, the other Swiss in tournament, bowed out of the competition on Monday.
