Broadcaster paints the balance sheet red
The Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) has announced a SFr17.2 million ($16.64 million) deficit for 2007.
Director-general Armin Walpen cited difficulties in generating additional revenue as the cabinet rejected an increase in licence fees.
The company board on Monday also announced a review of the corporation’s governance and management structures in line with a request by the government.
The public broadcaster said that operating income had risen 1.5 per cent to SFr1.57 billion, boosted by increased licensing fees and commercial income.
Operating expenses increased by 0.6 per cent and personnel costs rose by 5.6 per cent, the SBC said.
The result is a slight improvement on the previous year for the broadcaster, which lost SFr25 million in 2006.
The SBC operates radio, television and internet properties in Switzerland and is the parent company of swissinfo.
