Calida finally starts to grow again
Leading Swiss lingerie and pyjama maker Calida has seen its net profits soar over 150 per cent to SFr15.3 million ($14.6 million) in 2007.
Higher exports, along with a reorganisation that included moving the production of its French market brand Aubade to Tunisia, led to reported real growth in turnover for the first time in ten years.
Sales, up 4.8 per cent, increased to SFr232 million, the group announced on Friday. The Calida brand was the main contributor to turnover, increasing 7.2 per cent in 2007.
Exports were up 14 per cent. Calida has a 20 per cent share of the Swiss market for nightwear and lingerie in Switzerland but its domestic sales only increased slightly.
Aubade saw its sales stay relatively stable at SFr74.5 million but the brand expanded to 17 boutiques.
Calida embarked on a company restructuring programme in 2001, shifting production abroad and boosting its marketing. The company moved back into the black in 2003 after a SFr40.3 million loss in 2001.
