Swiss loses last flight to Tripoli

Swiss International Air Lines has lost its last remaining flight to Tripoli in the latest twist in a diplomatic row between Libya and Switzerland.

Libyan civil aviation authorities informed the airline at the beginning of last week that the flights were being stopped “for technical reasons associated with a project at Tripoli airport”.

“We can no longer fly there,” airline spokesman Jean-Claude Donzel told French-language radio on Tuesday. “As far as we know, we are the only company affected.”

The flight scheduled for last Sunday was pulled and no reservations are being accepted for future flights.

Since July relations between the two countries have been strained over the arrest in Geneva of one of the sons of Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi.
