Ammann wins his first World Cup event

Simon Ammann came out first ahead of Germany’s Sven Hannawald and Poland’s Adam Malysz Keystone

The Swiss ski jumper and double Olympic gold medallist, Simon Ammann, has won his first World Cup event in Oslo, Norway.

The 20 year-old came out first ahead of Germany’s Sven Hannawald and Poland’s Adam Malysz. Despite thick fog, Ammann reached 128.5 metres on his first jump – the biggest jump of the day – and 117 metres in the second leg.

“[The fog] was not a big deal for us,” said Ammann. “It was a great experience to win here at Holmenkollen.”

One event remains in the series, at Planica, Slovenia,
next weekend.

In the overall standings, Malysz has 1,475 points and Hannawald 1,259. Amman is ranked seventh with 628 points.
