Athletics: Bucher takes second at Golden League meeting
Switzerland's André Bucher came close to winning the 800 metres at the Golden League meeting in Rome. He was just 0.12 seconds behind Algeria's Djabir Said-Guerni.
However, the Swiss athelete, who crossed the finish line in a time of one minute, 44.44 seconds, was a little disappointed with his own performance. “I imagined the race to have been much quicker,” said the Swiss record-holder. He said he had actually hoped to have finished the race in one minute, 43 seconds.
During the first half of the race, Bucher found himself in fourth position, but he quickly made up for that by staying in second for the remainder, ahead of Kenya’s Japhet Kimutai.
“I got myself out of that situation and in doing so, avoided any jostling for position (later on), ” he said, adding, “I’m happy with the result.”
