Davos are through to the final of this year's Spengler Cup despite losing 5-6 to Team Canada.

The Swiss side scraped through after seeing Finnish side Turku lose their match against bottom-ranked Sparta Prague.

Davos now have the chance of gaining revenge over their Canadian rivals and winning a second successive Spengler Cup crown in Monday’s final.

Earlier, in front of a capacity 7,800-strong crowd packed into Davos’ Ice Stadium, it was the Swiss who made the first decisive move when Miller put the home side one goal up after less than a minute of play.

But the Canadians fought back in the 7th minute, when Heaphy capitalised on a momentarily weak Davos defence to bring the score level. Ten minutes later the Canadian player slotted home another goal to put the visitors ahead.

Last-ditch goal

There was nothing to separate the two sides during the second quarter, and by the third neither team seemed confident enough to run away with the match.

A last-ditch goal courtesy of Alston in the 61st minute drew a final and decisive line under the tit-for-tat play and sent Davos back to the dressing room thinking their dreams had been shattered.
