Federer cruises past second round at US Open
Switzerland's Roger Federer is through to the third round of this year's US Open in New York after a comfortable victory over the American wild card entry, Robby Ginepri.
Federer, the number 13 seed, won the match in straight sets 6-2,7-5, 6-1. The 20-year-old from Basel has now made it through to the third round of the last five Grand Slam tournaments.
Federer was on top for the most of the match, during which he rarely needed to perform at his best. He hit 36 winners and fired 13 aces but was also guilty of making 24 unforced errors.
He now faces the winner of the tie between the Netherlands’ Sjeng Schalken and Australia’s Andrew Ilie.
