Football: FC Zurich back on track
FC Zurich have pulled themselves back into contention for a place in the top division next season with a 2-0 away win over struggling Delemont.
Zurich dropped into the relegation playoff league at the end of the winter season after being penalised for fielding an ineligible player. But under the new management of former Swiss national coach, Gilbert Gress, the team seem to be turning the corner.
A follow-up shot from Jamarauli and a Shaun Bartlett goal ten minutes from time were enough to see FC Zurich climb to third place. The four top teams at the end of the playoffs will play in next season’s National League A, while the other four go into the B league.
A run of five games undefeated has not only led to Zurich’s league position improving. In nine days time Gress will also be leading the team out into the Wankdorf stadium for this year’s Swiss Cup final against Lausanne.
