Grange pulls off a rare double in Wengen
French skier Jean-Baptiste Grange won the World Cup slalom event in the Swiss resort of Wengen on Saturday, his second victory in two days.
The best-placed Swiss was Daniel Albrecht who finished in seventh place, while his compatriots Marc Gini came 15th and Marc Berthod 24th.
Grange, who won the super combination event on Friday, became the first skier since Frenchman Jean-Claude Killy in 1967 to win both events in Wengen.
The 23-year-old Grange led after the first leg and finished with a combined time of one minute 34.81 seconds.
Sweden’s Jens Byggmark took second place, 0.80 of a second behind Grange, with Ted Ligety of the United States in third position, a further 0.09 of a second behind.
Switzerland’s Albrecht was runner-up in Friday’s race super combination ski race.
The programme in Wengen finishes on Sunday with the classic Lauberhorn downhill in which title-holder Bode Miller of the US faces a strong challenge from Switzerland’s Didier Cuche and Liechtenstein’s Marco Büchel.
