High wire artist starts seven-day challenge
Swiss high wire artist Freddy Nock has begun a week-long challenge to break seven high altitude records in as many days.
Starting in Zugspitze cable car station in Germany on Saturday afternoon he walked a 995-metre-long cable car line unaided, climbing 348 metres to a height of 2,950 metres above sea level.
A spokesman for the artist told swissinfo.ch he did the walk successfully and it would be submitted for entry in the Guinness Book of Records as the “longest and highest wire walk above sea level without a balancing pole”.
Around 200 people turned out to watch the attempt, which benefited from ideal weather conditions. Nock took an hour and 20 minutes to complete the walk.
In the coming week in spots in Austria and Switzerland, he will attempt the longest cable crossing with a bike and try walking the longest and highest rope down a valley. He is hoping to raise money for Unicef.
