Imboden secures ticket to Salt Lake City
Bode Miller from the United States won the World Cup slalom race in Schladming, Austria, where Swiss skier Urs Imboden qualified for the Olympic Games.
Miller was literally in the limelight in the night slalom race in Schladming by marking his third victory this season.
By finishing with a time of one minute, 44.60 seconds, the American was 66 hundredth of a second faster than Jean-Pierre Vidal from France, who came second. The Croatian Ivica Kostelic finished in third place.
However, even though Swiss skier Urs Imboden only finished in 12th place, the 27-year-old can consider himself a winner. With this result he guaranteed himself a place in the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City.
After finishing in 15th place in the first run, Imboden promised to give everything in the second run as he knew he would have to perform well in order to take part in the Olympic slalom in the Deer Valley Resort on February 23.
Swiss skier Daniel Defago showed an impressive performance and finished 25th in the overall race. Marco Casanova was disqualified in the first run and Silvan Zurbriggen crashed out in the second run.
