The Swiss tennis player, Michel Kratochvil, has beaten the Austrian Markus Hipfl in the second round of the Nottingham Open in Britain, booking his place in the quarter-finals of the SFr671,000 ($375,000) tournament.
The 22-year-old player, beat the Austrian following Hipfl’s retirement due to a back injury after losing the first set 6-0 and trailing 4-2 in the second.
Kratochvil’s second round victory comes as good news to the 77th ranked player as it bodes well for his performance at the Wimbledon Championships which starts on Monday.
Kratochvil will go head-to-head with Andy Roddick in the quarter-finals, after the American beat the Zimbabwean grass-court veteran , Byron Black, in straight sets.
It was a different story however in the Netherlands at the Heineken Trophy, where Switzerland did not fare as well.
The Swiss player, Yves Allegro was knocked out in the second round by Belgium’s Xavier Malisse in straight sets.
