Lausanne continue to struggle
Home crowd support was not enough to help Lausanne's ice hockey team beat Fribourg, further damaging their quest for a place in the championship play-offs.
Lausanne narrowly lost to Fribourg 4-3 in Thursday night’s match at the Malley rink, Lausanne.
After taking an early lead by scoring the only goal of the opening period, the men from the shores of Lake Geneva were then outscored four to one in the second.
A final Lausanne goal in the third period brought the scorelines closer but not close enough to bring the canton Vaud side a much-needed victory.
Although still mathematically capable of grabbing the last available place in the playoffs, Lausanne now have to win both their remaining matches while also relying on their nearest rivals to slip up.
With one weekend of action still to go, struggling Swiss giants Bern currently hold the all-important eighth place, with Langnau, Lausanne and Rapperswil all giving chase.
