Marathon success for Kaminski and Krieg
Olten's Marco Kaminski and Muri's Elisabeth Krieg are Switzerland's new national marathon champions following victories in Lausanne on Sunday.
Kaminski was the best-placed Swiss man, finishing the international race in eighth place overall with a time of 2:28’44”. Geneva-based Ethiopian runner Tesfaye Eticha was the overall winner for the fourth time in his career, crossing the finish line in a course record time of 2:12’38”.
Swiss record holder Viktor Röthlin and last year’s national champion Bruno Heuberger were among the notable absentees from this year’s event.
In a hotly-contested women’s race Moldavia’s Valentia Jenaki took the overall title in a time of 2:39’41”. Krieg finished fourth despite coming in just four seconds behind Jenaki.
The result brought Krieg her fifth Swiss title and a welcome boost ahead of her planned debut in this year’s New York marathon.
