No problems for Hingis
Switzerland's Martina Hingis made it three finals in three tournaments on Saturday after comfortably beating Silvia Farina during the semi-finals of the WTA tournament in Tokyo.
The Swiss number one downed the Italian in straight sets (6-0, 6-4) to cruise into the final of the $1.22 million event.
Hingis is chasing her second title win of the new season following her success in Sydney at the start of the year. The world number four is also hoping to bounce back from her disappointment at the Australia Open where she was beaten in the final by American world number one Jennifer Capriati.
Standing in the Swiss player’s way in Sunday’s final will be American world number three Monica Seles who overcame Hingis’s Russian doubles partner Anna Kournikova in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) in Saturday’s second semi-final.
Hingis has good recent memories of playing Seles, having ended a brief losing run against the American with victory in the Australian Open semis.
In all the encounters between the two women, Hingis has won 13 times while losing on just four occasions.
