Switzerland's Corinne Rey-Bellet says she felt good about her performance in the women's World Cup super-G in Italy, which was won by Germany's Hilde Gerg.

Despite “skiing really well”, Rey-Bellet came sixth in Friday’s race at Cortina d’Ampezzo in the Italian Alps.

“I listened to my heart,” she said after the race. “It was important for me to feature among today’s fastest skiers, to regain my confidence after my two successive super-g eliminations,” Rey-Bellet continued.

Switzerland’s Sylviane Berthoud also made it into the top 10. With an eye on the Winter Olympics just a week away, she told reporters she was looking forward to improving her performance.

“I’m striving to do better than tenth place,” Berthoud said.

Germany’s Olympic champion Hilde Gerg narrowly won Friday’s competition. She skied the course in one minute 17.20 seconds, finishing just one hundredth of a second ahead of Austria’s Renate Goetschl.

Alexandra Meissnitzer was third with a time of 1:17.40.
