Swiss bobsledders in the hunt for more medals
Switzerland 1 has taken second place at the halfway point of the Olympic four-man bobsleigh competition.
At the end of the first day of the men’s event, the Swiss team piloted by Martin Annen was only nine hundredths of a second behind US 1 led by Todd Hays. Switzerland 1 finished equal second with a German quartet led by Andre Lange, who also clocked an aggregate time of 1 minute 33.35.
Christian Reich in Switzerland 2, slowed by a stray push handle in the second run, grabbed fourth spot, 0.38 seconds off the pace after two runs down the speedy Utah Olympic Park track.
The final third and fourth heats will take place on Saturday. Runs in the two-day event are timed to .01 seconds and the final standings will be determined by the total time over all four runs.
The winner will be the sled with the lowest aggregate time. If, as is currently the case, two teams complete the competition in a tie, they will be awarded the same place.
Switzerland 2 driver Christian Reich has already won a silver at Salt Lake in the two-man bob, while Switzerland 1 driver Martin Annen took the bronze in the same event.
