Swiss curlers lose out in European semis
Both of Switzerland's curling teams lost out on a place in the sport's European Championship finals, after semi-final defeats to Denmark and Norway on Friday.
The Swiss women, represented by the Solothurn-Wengi club team of skip Nadja Heuer, were beaten by the Norwegians 6-5. Andreas Schwaller’s men’s team from Biel matched the score as they lost to the Danes.
Both sides play for their third place on Saturday, the women facing Germany and the men Sweden. Wins will keep them in with a chance of making it to next year’s World Championship in Lausanne, itself an crucial step towards qualification for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
