Gisin edges Vonn and Mancuso in Super G

Swiss skier Dominique Gisin has won the Super-G in Crans Montana, ahead of Olympic stars, Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso.

Switzerland’s Nadia Styger finished fourth, missing a spot on the podium by only 0.06 seconds.

It was Gisin’s first ever Super G win on the World Cup circuit, and was a welcome comeback for a skier plagued by injury and mishap this season. In January, she damaged her knee during a race and underwent an operation.

She was able to take part in the Vancouver Olympics and made it into the headlines – not for victory but a spectacular crash near the finish line in the downhill event. She was badly shaken but suffered no serious injuries.

In a men’s Super G event in Kvitfjell, Norway, Switzerland’s Tobias Gruenenfelder tied for third with Olympic champion Aksel Lund Svindal.

The race was won by Canada’s Erik Guay. Austria’s Hannes Reichelt was second.
