Figures released on Monday by the WTA Tour Rankings show Hingis has netted a total of $1.16 million since the start of the year. Her closest rival, Davenport, has earned $1.07 million.

Nevertheless, Hingis had to give up her number one world ranking on Monday after only one week, following her defeat at the German Open in Berlin at the weekend.

She lost in the semi-final to the former Wimbledon Champion, Spain's Conchita Martinez in straight sets, 7-5 6-4.
