On Thursday Hitzfeld launched a defence of his team, which have lost three straight friendly matches at home since qualifying for South Africa in October.
Switzerland’s 1-0 defeat to Costa Rica on Tuesday means the team’s only goal in that losing streak has come from a penalty, while no forward has scored in five matches.
Hitzfeld says he’s “not bothered” by the team’s performances, insisting his only focus is on the World Cup opener against Spain on June 16. They also face Chile and Honduras in Group H.
Switzerland play world champions Italy in Geneva on Saturday in their last warm-up match.
