Flu fever tightens its grip

After a period of calm, doctors' waiting rooms across Switzerland are once again teeming with people suffering from flu. The number of sneezing patients seeking a doctor's advice broke the threshold of 1,5 per cent of all medical visits.

For the first time this year, the number of people seeking medical advise for the flu rose in all cantons, according to Werner Wunderli, who is the head of the national influenza centre in Geneva.

The cantons of Ticino and Graubünden were particularly hard hit by the epidemic as nearly six per cent of all doctor consultations were flu-related. The cantons of Bern, Fribourg and Jura were also suffering, with 1,84 per cent.

Classic symptoms of flu include a fever, headache, tiredness, muscle pains and shivering.
