Football: Lausanne’s Gobet out for six months
The Lausanne defender Stéphane Gobet will be out of action for at least six months, according to a report in "Le Matin" newspaper.
Gobet ruptured ligaments in his left knee during Sunday’s league match in Lausanne. He has suffered from knee injuries in the past and was forced to have a knee operation four years ago, when he was just 16.
Despite his lack of years, Gobet has become a regular in the Lausanne back four. As well as missing his skills in defence, Lausanne could feel his absence upfront. It was Gobet who scored the side’s only goal during the second leg of their UEFA cup qualifying tie against the Irish team, Cork City.
Gobet’s goal completed a 2-0 victory for Lausanne over the two legs, ensuring their place in the first round against Russia’s Torpedo Moscow.
