Krueger’s men complete Slovakia double

Switzerland have won their second friendly match in three days against the world ice hockey vice champions Slovakia.

Following Friday’s 4-2 win in Lausanne, Ralph Krueger’s men found things a little tougher in Bern on Sunday, having to twice come from behind before winning 3-2.

The first period saw Slovakia cancel out a 15th minute goal from Lugano’s Sandy Jeannin, who was making his first international appearance. The visitors then went 2-1 up in the last minute of the second period.

Switzerland responded quickly after the resumption of play with Marc Reichert equalising in the 43rd minute. But it wasn’t until seven minutes from the end that the hosts got back into the lead, Mathias Seger getting what turned out to be the winning goal.

The two friendly matches are part of the Swiss team’s preparations for the world championships, which get underway in Germany at the end of April. Switzerland are hoping to build on their recent good form in the championships, having reached the quarter-finals or better in each of the past three years.
