Rosset through to second round in Polish Open
Switzerland's Marc Rosset has qualified for the second round of the Polish Open tennis tournament in Sopot, after winning by default against Andrej Medvedev. The Ukrainian was forced to retire during the second set due to a viral infection.
Monday’s match was interrupted on the score of 6-3, 2-3 for Rosset.
The Geneva player goes on to face either Spain’s Albert Portas (ATP 25) or the Argentinian Mariano Puerta (ATP 180).
Rosset has won five out of eight matches against Mevedev. Today’s victory is the eighth in 27 matches this season.
Rosset’s compatriot, George Bastl, was less fortunate during the first round of the Polish Open, losing in straight sets 1-6, 2-6 against Spain’s David Sanchez (ATP 94). This represents his fifth consecutive defeat.
