Swiss team crushed by Lithuania

After losing against Ukraine and Turkey, the Swiss national basketball team has been defeated a third time in their quest for the European championships.

In their qualifying match for the European championships in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius, the Lithuanian hosts defeated the Swiss team with a crushing 47-93.

It became obvious quite early in the match that the Swiss team did not have a chance against the Olympic bronze medallists of 1996 and 2000.

Part of the reason for this crushing defeat could be the fact that Swiss top player Harold Mrazek was injured and could not take part in the match.

The European championships will take place in Sweden in 2003.

In other matches Bulgaria defeated Holland 90-81 and Turkey won over Ukraine 80-67.

Following today’s results, Lithuania is in first place in the current ranking, followed by Turkey, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Holland and Switzerland.
