Türkyilmaz boost to Lugano championsip bid
Switzerland's all-time top international goalscorer, Kubilay Türkyilmaz, has agreed to join league leaders Lugano on a loan deal until at least the end of the championship round.
The 34-year-old striker has been released until the end of the season by his Italian club, Brescia. Türkyilmaz joined the Serie A side in July 1999, but has spent much of his time in Italy on the bench.
His Swiss nationality has been a major hindrance to his chances of playing first team football, with the Italian league limiting the number of non-EU players that a coach can utilise. Türkyilmaz has already been loaned out to Lucerne and Bellinzona during his time with Brescia.
Lugano will be hoping to add the firepower of Türkyilmaz to an already formidable strike force. With the two Argentineans, Rossi and Giminez, completing the line-up, the Ticinese side are going into the championship round as strong favourites to win the Swiss title.
Türkyilmaz will be presented to the Lugano fans on Sunday before seeing his new team in action in a friendly match against FC Wil.
