The journey of the Irish Earls through Switzerland
During the "Great Winter" of 1608, a group of Irish earls and their families passed through Switzerland on a journey of exile which marked a turning point in Irish history. They left Ireland after a long struggle against the English crown forces. This year, descendants of the nobles are marking St Patrick's Day by tracing their route across the Swiss Alps.
