Participants at this year's annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos (January 27 - February 1) have a novel means of finding their way around in the Swiss Alpine resort.

A new generation of mobile phones available for hire will provide them with a "location finder" as well as news, weather forecasts and ski conditions.

The mobile phones use WAP technology (Wireless Application Protocol), which enables users to access the Internet through their mobile phones.

Swissinfo, the multimedia news and information platform of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR idée suisse) is providing the WAP service. Swissinfo is produced by Swiss Radio International in Berne.

Latest developments at the annual meeting, as well as local skiing conditions and weather reports are available at: http://wap.swissinfo.org/wef.wml.

The "location finder" will enable participants at the annual meeting to find their way around Davos. The location of the place they are seeking appears in the display screen of the WAP mobile phone.

The Swiss Broadcasting Corporation's website: http://wap.swissinfo.org provides news and services in four languages (English, German, French and Italian). The site is already on the WAP platform of Swisscom. It will be launched officially on February 21.
