Prisoners make an Easter break
The Easter weekend saw a spectacular prison breakout by three men at the Willisau jail near Lucerne. All are still on the run.
The three attacked a prison officer, tied him up and shut him into a cell on Sunday evening. The escapees are described as violent and dangerous.
Shortly after 8pm the prison officer was able to free himself and raise the alarm. He suffered three broken ribs.
There is no trace of the three men, described as two Serbs and one Swiss. No details of why they were in prison have been released.
“As the men are dangerous, we ask people to be careful,” said Simon Kopp, spokesman for the Lucerne judicial authorities.
The breakout follows the news that a 58-year-old man failed to return to the St Johannsen offenders’ institution on Saturday following prison leave. The centre hit the headlines last autumn when a sex offender committed an offence after having absconded.
