In a race against time, the 23-year-old will now attempt to prepare himself with intense physiotherapy sessions. His doctors and trainer will decide on Wednesday if he can compete in the 400 metre medley event this weekend.

Platel broke his hand last Friday at a training camp in near Brisbane.
