Picture of the week
Zurich Zoo presented its newborn elephant calf Zali on Wednesday, April 7. The 19-year-old elephant mother Farha gave birth to the “little calf” at 2:22am on Easter Saturday. Baby elephants usually weigh between 100 and 150 kg at birth. The name Zali is inspired by the Sanskrit word Zalak that means “immediate appearance”, Zurich Zoo Director Severin Dressen told the media last week.
