False bomb alert delays Swiss plane

Turkish explosive experts searched a Swiss International Air Lines plane due to take off from Istanbul on Thursday, after a bomb threat was found in an airport toilet.

However, the search revealed nothing, and the plane, an Airbus A321, was later cleared for take-off.

A spokeswoman for the airlines told swissinfo.ch that the passengers had not yet boarded when the threat – written in English and naming the Swiss flight – was discovered.

The flight had 196 registered passengers and six crew.

The plane, scheduled to leave at 5.15pm local time, eventually took off at 7.42pm according to the airline’s website.
