Football: Lausanne go third with win over Servette

Lausanne have defeated Servette 3-1 in a Lake Geneva derby to climb to third in the National League A.

Both sides seemed equally matched throughout most of the game. Gerber broke through Servette’s defences to score Lausanne’s opener in the 28th minute, but the Geneva team managed to equalise 17 minutes later.

It wasn’t until almost halfway through the second half that Lausanne started to take control, with Rehn bringing the score to 2-1. Four minutes later, Ohrel scored the last goal of the match, probably putting paid to Servette’s chances of competing in the European cup.

Lausanne’s win also came at the expense of Grasshoppers who drop into fourth place ahead of their game against Lucerne on Sunday. Both Lausanne and Grasshoppers are level on points with second-place Basel, but all three trail the runaway leaders, St Gallen, by a seemingly insurmountable 11 points.
