Sauber banking on success with Credit Suisse
Switzerland's Sauber motor racing team have completed a lucrative new sponsorship deal with the Credit Suisse banking group.
The exact financial details have not been revealed but a Credit Suisse spokesman said the deal would involve several million Swiss francs. The bank will be one of three major sponsors, alongside the drink manufacturer Red Bull and the Petronas oil company.
Team leader Peter Sauber expressed his excitement about the deal in a statement issued on Wednesday.
“What pleases me the most,” he said, “is that our team have gained an internationally renowned Swiss bank as a sponsor for the first time. That means we will remain a Swiss racing team.”
As well as a new sponsor, Sauber are heading into this season’s Formula One programme with a new car and new drivers. Germany’s Nick Heidfeld and Finland’s Kimi Raikkonen have been road-testing the Sauber C20 this month in Italy and Spain.
Both the car and the drivers will be officially unveiled at Sauber’s Hinwil base in canton Zurich on January 24.
