Swiss jet flies on urgent mission to US
An ambulance jet of the Swiss Air Rescue service (Rega) is flying from Bergen in Norway to Boston in an emergency flight carrying two seriously injured children.
The aircraft is repatriating two brothers, aged four and six, who suffered major burns after a gas explosion.
They boys will be treated at a special clinic in Boston because there is currently a lack of space for such treatment in Norway.
Rega said it was the first emergency flight since it had moved two of its three jets from Zurich to the Italian city of Brindisi as a result of the closure of much of European air space due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland.
It commented that its flight could not have taken place had the planes stayed at their home base.
