Disruption at some border crossings with France

Traffic has been severely disrupted at the border between Switzerland and France, as well as at other French frontiers, as a result of an industrial dispute involving French truck drivers.

Traffic has been severely disrupted at the border between Switzerland and France, as well as at other French frontiers, as a result of a one-day strike by French truck drivers.

The crossing points at Basel and Geneva were seriously affected. Police said a 1.5 kilometre tailback on the French side had effectively blocked all truck traffic. Private cars were also delayed for several hours.

Police say the situation has now returned to normal, with traffic running smoothly.

The truck drivers imposed a blockade at various points between France and Belgium, Britain, Germany and Switzerland in protest at plans to introduce a 35-hour working week.
