Dozen BA flights to Switzerland cancelled
British Airways cancelled twelve flights to and from Switzerland for Sunday, the second day of a strike by the airline’s cabin crew.
According to the websites of Swiss airports, eight flights to Geneva were cancelled, two to Zurich and two to Basel.
Company management and Unite, the trade union representing cabin crew, over the weekend continued to challenge each other over the level of service still being provided by the company.
British Airways says it is doing better than expected. The union, which represents 12,000 employees, said 80 per cent of its members had stopped working and that 250 flights were grounded on Saturday.
The airline said 97 per cent of staff reported for duty at Gatwick and 52.5 per cent at Heathrow.
British Airways said it hoped to serve 49,000 passengers over the weekend, about 65 per cent of normal loads in March.
The company’s first strike in 13 years was launched Friday at midnight and should continue to Monday evening. Workers will walk off the job for four days beginning next Saturday should further negotiations fail.
