SGS makes strategic acquisition in Australia
The Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS), the world's largest testing and certification group, is to acquire the Scientific Services company of Australia.
A statement from SGS headquarters in Geneva on Monday said the company had made a public offer for 100 per cent of Scientific Services shares. It did not disclose a figure for the deal.
Scientific Services is active in testing and analytical services to the global minerals and petroleum industries, with operations centred mainly in Australia and Africa. It had a turnover of Australian $80 million (SFr66.74 million) last year.
The SGS statement said the acquisition represented an important strategic move for SGS Mineral Services and was fully in line with the group’s strategy of asserting its market leadership in its core sectors.
The statement added that the directors and management of Scientific Services had indicated their support for the SGS offer.
