Swiss charities inaugurate joint Internet gateway
A group of 30 Swiss non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are set to launch on Tuesday a new Internet gateway, "www.interportal.ch", devoted entirely to issues of international development and cooperation.
The portal will serve as a centre for information and will provide updates on projects initiated by a number of development organisations, including Swissaid, Bread for All, Helvetas and Caritas.
The aim of the site is to establish a united web presence for a variety of Swiss charities, political and cultural organisations, and other institutions that are active in the areas of training and professional counselling.
Links to individual organisations together with joint communiqués and press releases will also be available on the interportal.ch homepage.
The Swiss Development Agency has contributed SFr30,000 ($16,800) towards the start-up costs of the new site.
A further investment of SFr60,000 ($33,500) is to be provided by partner organisations such as Swissaid, cinfo and the Swiss Tropical Institute.
The site will initially be available in German only, but there are plans to add information in English and French if the gateway proves to be a success.
