Soliswiss produces film to mark its 50 years

A cooperative set up to provide financial protection for the Swiss abroad against political risks is celebrating its half-century with a documentary about its work.

Soliswiss – the Cooperative Society Solidarity Fund for Swiss Nationals Abroad – tells the stories of seven members who turned to it for help over the years.

The organisation says that every year 30,000 Swiss move abroad. One in ten Swiss lives outside the country, making a total of 670,000.

Soliswiss insurance provides a lump sum payment in case of social and politically motivated threats, terrorism and war, with the Swiss government offering an unlimited deficit guarantee as a reinsurer.

Members pay an annual premium of SFr40 ($36.5) or a single premium of SFr500 for lifelong coverage.

The cooperative is holding its main 50th anniversary celebrations during the Congress of the Organisation of the Swiss Abroad in Fribourg, which is taking place from Friday to Sunday.
