Basel’s autumn fair opens
Switzerland's largest autumn fair opened on Saturday in Basel, bringing with it two weeks of fairground rides and autumnal culinary delights.
It has been a major event in the region ever since the trade fair privilege was granted by Emperor Friedrich III in 1471.
This year the fair takes place in seven locations across the city and on both sides of the river Rhine, which runs through Basel
There are 470 stands and rides, including a 60-metre-high big wheel in the Münsterplatz.
This is the 538th time that the fair has taken place.
