Davos secure place in finals

Davos players celebrating their victory over the Kloten Flyers on Tuesday Keystone

Davos have become the first ice hockey team to qualify for the finals in the Swiss ice hockey playoffs.

The team easily defeated Kloten 6-0 to get through to the finals of the best-of-seven playoff series, which was introduced in 1985.

This is the first time in four years for the Graubünden team to reach the finals.

The decision was more or less made in the first third after Davos impressed with a good start and scored a goal in the first minute.

After this strong opening, the Davos players did not give the Zurich team time to recover and carried on with their goal-scoring streak.

Still undecided

Davos are still waiting to see whether they will face the Zurich Lions or Lugano in the finals after the Lions managed to level their semi-final series against their Ticinese rivals.

A 4-3 win on Tuesday was enough to see the Lions tie the overall series score at 3-3.

The game was once again decided in overtime and this time it was the 19-year-old Raeto Raffainer who scored the winning goal for the Lions in the 70th minute.

On Thursday the two teams will meet again for the deciding match, which will take place in Lugano.
